The oral cavity is the gateway to the digestive system and a predictor of overall health. The medical field and the dental field have begun working together to assist patients in a better understanding of how your oral health affects the entire health of the body. There are many diseases that are reflected in the health of your mouth, such as diabetes, digestive issues and oral cancers. According to the oral cancer society: " Close to 54,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or oropharyngeal cancer this year." This course will teach you the signs, symptoms and treatments for oral disease and will give treatments for basic oral concerns and go over ways to prevent disease.
This course will be held on Hocking College's Perry campus.

Misti Malfe has practiced clinical dental hygiene for over 33 years throughout the state of Ohio. She has worked in both general dentistry and with dental specialists in the dental field. During that time, she has worked to educate both patients and the community on the importance of dental health. Misti is a local resident and grew up on a dairy farm in Roseville, Ohio. In 2019 she switched career paths from clinical dental hygiene to educations and is nowt the Dental Hygiene Program Manager at Hocking College.
